Happy National Volunteer Week! While we’re celebrating all the incredible people who make the BCPA shine, we wanted to take a moment to shine a light on two remarkable women who ensure our visiting artists feel right at home: Barbara Brower and Patti Marshall-Doane.

Barbara and Patti are the brilliant co-chairs of our Hospitality Committee, but their connection to the arts and this venue runs deep.

From Stage to Strategy

Barbara Brower is a true BCPA institution. She’s been involved in theater as both an actor and a producer, and her commitment to the BCPA is long-standing—she even served on the Board for many years and was instrumental in the design and construction of the building itself! When you see the beautiful space, you're seeing Barbara's history with us.

Patti Marshall-Doane came to us as a retired BAS teacher, looking for a meaningful way to give back to the community she spent her career serving. She joined the Board and quickly brought her warm, organizational skills to our backstage world.

The Art of the Welcome

What does the Hospitality Committee actually do? They are the unsung heroes responsible for welcoming every guest artist who steps off the tour bus and onto our stage. Their job is vital: they coordinate all the requested food and beverages, turning the bare bones of a dressing room into a comfortable, welcoming space.

But for Patti and Barb, it’s not just about stocking bottled water and making sure the coffee is hot. They genuinely enjoy chatting with the guest artists backstage, getting to know the performers on a personal level before they step under the lights.

Their single, shared goal is simple: to make sure every single performer has a positive, memorable experience in Brighton.

Thank you, Patti and Barb, for your continued kindness, dedication, and for showing our guest artists the very best of BCPA hospitality. We literally couldn't do it without your warm commitment to making each show a success!
